How to Play Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love Guitar Solo (Eddie Van Halen)

Eddie Van Halen wrote Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love way back in 1977 and according to some online sources he was hesitant to show it to his bandmates. Thankfully he did and it was included on Van Halen’s debut release in 1978.

The guitar solo in Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love is very cool and easy enough for a beginner. It was one of the very first guitar solos that I ever learned. I still jam to it!

The solo is mostly played with an open high e string. The techniques that Eddie uses include slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs and a dive bomb at the end of the solo.

Don’t be afraid to improvise the ending. Make it your own. A good chunk of the guitar solo needs to match what Eddie plays but the very end before the dive bomb on the tremolo is all yours. Be creative!
